Yo! Tories! Anybody home?

On Tuesday, local candidates in next week’s federal election sat down to break bread with street folk at the Shep’s and discuss their views on the problem of homeless in Ottawa. The Alliance To End Homelessness sent out a general invitation to all candidates running in Ottawa area ridings. Liberal Mauril Bélanger; NDP candidates Trevor Haché, Paul Dewar, and Marlene Rivier; and Green Party candidataes Jean-Luc Cooke and Mark MacKenzie showed up to eat and talk turkey.

Notable by their complete absence were representatives of the Conservative Party and, in particular, cabinet minister John Baird who received a personal invitation.  Just how much stonewalling can a party do and still get elected?  I guess we’ll see …
